Home School Presentations by John R. Sowash

I’m a second generation home-schooler who believes that technology can improve home education.

Three kids doing school work at a table

We use technology with our 5 kids.

Let me inspire your home school community with positive ideas and strategies for using technology to enhance their home school curriculum.

There is an appropriate, positive, and helpful place for technology in home education. Let me show you how.

As a homeschool family of 5, my wife and I use these techniques and strategies for our children.

We use technology to organize and mange the unique needs of 5 children and have seen our children flourish as they demonstrate their learning in fun, modern ways that friends and family enjoy.

Here are a few of of the projects we have created together:

  • The Curious Kids Podcast (a weekly podcast that highlights what we are learning)
  • Project Portfolio (something we do at the end of the year to remember what we accomplished)
  • Video biography reports (completed by our older students)
  • Graphic organizers (created to show mastery of a topic)

I am a seasoned conference presenter who reaches an annual audience of 50,000+. Book me to challenge and engage the families at  your home school conference!

My conference sessions feature practical ideas like the ones above. Each of my sessions include templates, examples, and classroom strategies that homeschool families can use immediately.

John is a dynamic presenter!  He has been a featured speaker at our ITIP Ohio Google Summit multiple times not only because of his tech integration knowledge, but also his ability to connect with any audience that sits in front of him.  His sessions are informative and active, and attendees always walk away with creative and meaningful ways to use technology to enhance teaching and learning. Betsy Hood, Vice President, ITIP Ohio, Ohio Google Summit

Most of my speaking engagements fall into three categories:

1. Opening or Closing Keynote Sessions

A keynote sets the tone for a conference. My keynotes are designed to balance inspirational stories and practical application. These 45-60 minute large group sessions will challenge and inspire your audience.

  • The Digital Natives are Restless: understanding and helping 21st-century students
  • Collectors or Connectors: helping students connect with information in meaningful ways.

2. Breakout Sessions

These 45-90 minute sessions focus on practical applications for using technology to enhance home education. My sessions feature up-to-date information on the latest trends and tools in educational technology and practical advice for designing lessons that are enhanced, not burdened, with technology.

I can offer many unique sessions for your homeschool event. Here are some of my more popular sessions:

  • Home School Tech: What you need and how to use it
  • Bring learning to life with technology
  • 10 simple ways to add technology into your homeschool day
  • Using Google Classroom to organize your home school lessons
  • Self-directed technology projects for older students.

3. Hands-on Workshop

These longer, 2-3 hour sessions provide more time for participants to practice and explore the use of technology in the classroom. My goal with hands-on sessions is to provide the time and space for participants to create and explore with technology, not just sit and listen. Most of my breakout sessions (listed above) can be converted into longer hands-on sessions. Here are some of my more popular workshops:

  • Using Google Classroom to organize your home school lessons
  • Bring learning to life with technology
  • Not another flipbook: 5 NEW project ideas for any home school.
